Moonstone colour can be white, cream, pink to brown.

Moonstone has a long association with love and fertility. In India, it has been held as sacred, and traditionally displayed only on a yellow cloth, a sacred colour. It was given as a gift between lovers, and believed to arouse passion. The lover could then use it to predict the future by holding the moonstone in their mouth during the full moon. In the west, moonstone jewellery was often given as an engagement gift until relatively recently. There are stories of moonstones changing their appearance to reflect the phases of the moon. Its colouring is usually white to cream, with a creamy white, blue or rainbow iridescence, resembling moonlight, and thus giving it its name.

Moonstone is associated with the moon and the element water, and is a particularly feminine stone, often linked with goddess worship. It is sometimes referred to as the “visionary stone”, as it awakens and develops our psychic potential, as well as opening us to our spirituality, and helping us to create a connection with the Divine. The iridescent shimmer also aids introspection, inner vision, self-reflection and self-awareness, supporting our personal development. It is considered to be the primary stone for female fertility, and is also sometimes used as an aid in the birthing process.
